Cosmetic Dentistry Website Search Engine Positioning
Dental Website SEO Questions

ot all search engine positioning programs, strategies or firms are the same. Some SEO tactics can even hurt your search engine positioning results in the long run. The following are just a few common myths about search engine optimization, including optimization tactics you should avoid.

Print this page when comparing providers, and ask "HOW" they get top search engine placements.

"You have to pay the search engines in order to get first-page results." -
Search engines offer "sponsored" or paid results, but the most desired listings are the 1-10 "results," which aren't for sale. Strategic search engine optimization secures these highly coveted listings.

"Optimization is simply placing lots of repetitive keywords in your website's meta tags."
Adding repetitive keywords into meta tags is called "keyword stuffing." It will eventually get your website penalized on the search engines, or get it banned all together. Although effective meta tags are still part of a comprehensive optimization effort, it is only one part. Meta tags alone will not get your website dominant 1st-page results.

"Hide a lot of keywords that you can't see, but search engine spiders can find."
Hidden or invisible text is a deceptive tactic to try and trick search engines. Fortunately, most search engines can now detect it and will penalize websites that employ this tactic.

"Create landing pages that immediately redirect visitors to your website once they try to visit them."
Redirecting or highjacking visitors to visit your website is a "bait and switch" tactic that tries to fool search engines and consumers. Again, using deceptive tactics, like doorway pages, will hurt your website's positioning results in the long run.

"Frequently submit your website to the search engines so they find you."
Effective optimization is not a competition about who can submit their website the most often. In fact, frequent, automated submissions to the search engines will be viewed as "spam" by search engines and treat it as such.

Link Farms-Beware! Some SEO firms promote instantly adding lots of reciprocal links to and from your website to their network of websites. Unfortunately, most, if not all of these links, are irrelevant to your business and industry or previously banned websites. Linking to "farms" like these is a strategy to artificially build your website's credibility or "link popularity." Search engines, like Google, frown on these tactics.

If you are unsure sure about what SEO tactics can hurt more than help, here is a simple "Rule of Thumb": Automated, deceptive or "quick fix" strategies are short-term fixes and typically don't deliver consistent long-term results.
